6 Unconventional Mass Building Foods

If lack of variety is beginning to plague your muscle building diet, it may be time to introduce some new foods to freshen things up.  Even if things seem to be fine now, it's inevitable that your diet will need an overhaul at some point in your weight gain program.

Let's be honest... There is only so many chicken breasts and cans of tuna one man can handle before every mouthful becomes a chore to chew and swallow.  Just the smell of certain foods can become sickening after you've eaten them day in and day out for months on end.

Fortunately there are a number of unconventional high protein foods that are relatively easy to find, are highly nutritious, and taste fantastic. 

Here are six mass building foods that you must try this barbecue season:

 

#1- BUFFALO

Buffalo Meat

Buffalo is a non "gamey" highly flavourful red meat that is available in many butcher shops.  Many people describe it's taste to be more rich, and slightly sweeter than beef.

It's highly nutritious, low in fat, and high in protein-exactly what we are looking for when it comes to muscle building foods.

  • Low in saturated fat and cholesterol.

Lamb is a unique tasting meat that is available in most butcher shops and supermarkets.   Although higher in saturated fat and calories than most of the other cuts of meat on this list, lamb is still an excellent choice. especially for those in a mass building program.

Lamb is very high in protein, and an excellent source of the minerals selenium and zinc.

Ostrich is a rich, tasty meat with it's flavor and texture being similar to beef. 
 
Although it is considered a red meat, it's nutritional characteristics match that of poultry more closely,as it is extremely low in saturated fat.

Ostrich is normally only available at gourmet meat shops and specialty butcher shops.

It can hard to source since it is rarely carried by supermarkets and generally only at gourmet meat butcher shops.

Benefits of Venison Meat:

    Quail is a wild bird with flavorful dark meat.  It's high in protein, relatively high in fat, and an abundant source of various vitamins and minerals.

    Quail can be found at specialty poultry shops, and some supermarkets year round.

    Benefits of quail:

    • High in calories.

    • Excellent source of niacin, phosphorus and copper.

    • Available year round.


     

    There you have it! Six new mass building foods that will help get your diet back on track and ultimately lead to more muscle growth.  I realize that  most of these are more expensive than your average cut of beef or can of fish, but I think it's important to  add a variety of meats to your diet, even if you are only consuming them once every week or two.

    Venison and lamb are my favorite on this list. Eventually I got so sick of eating chicken and beef that I had to change things up and eat one of these types of meat at least once a week.

    I highly recommend that anyone who hasn't already tried some of these foods give it a shot.
